- SavaVet Metaflam Tab (Meloxicam) For Dogs, 10 Tablets has been designed specifically for dogs. It is NOT SUITABLE FOR ADMINISTRATION TO HUMANS.
- Keep SavaVet Metaflam Tab (Meloxicam) For Dogs, 10 Tablets out of reach of children.
- Call your physician immediately if you or a member of your family accidentally ingests SavaVet Metaflam Tab (Meloxicam) For Dogs, 10 Tablets.
- SavaVet Metaflam Tab (Meloxicam) For Dogs, 10 Tablets should not be administered concurrently with steroidal or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, aminoglycoside antibiotics or anti-coagulant agents.
- Pre-treatment with anti-inflammatory drugs may result in additional or increased adverse effects and accordingly a treatment free period with such drugs should be observed for at least 24 hours before commencement with SavaVet Metaflam Tab (Meloxicam) For Dogs, 10 Tablets. The treatment free period, however, should take into account the pharmacological nature of previous drugs administered to the dog.
- Repeated administration of meloxicam in cats has been associated with acute renal failure and death. Do not administer additional injectable or oral meloxicam to cats.
Dosage
Metaflam oral suspension can be given using dropper bottle: Four drops for each kilogram of bodyweight on the first day and two drops for each kilogram of bodyweight daily as maintenance dose. Initial recommended dosage for SavaVet Metaflam Tab (Meloxicam) For Dogs, 10 Tablets is a single a dose of 0.2 mg meloxicam/kg BW on the first day. For continuance, oral administration (at 24-hour intervals) of dose of 0.1 mg meloxicam/kg BW is recommended. Since each chewable tablet contains 1 mg meloxicam corresponding to 10 kg BW dog, it may be halved for accurate dosage according to the individual body weight of the dog. A clinical response to the treatment is usually seen within 3-4 days. It is strongly recommended that the treatment be discontinued after 10 days at the latest if no clinical improvement is apparent.
Working Mechanism
Meloxicam, the active ingredient of SavaVet Metaflam Tab (Meloxicam) For Dogs, 10 Tablets, is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory compound belonging to oxicam group which acts through inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. It is a selective COX-2 inhibitor and also inhibits leukocyte infiltration into the inflamed tissue and prevents bone and cartilage destruction. To a minor extent it also inhibits collagen-induced thrombocyte aggregation. Thus, it acts as a potent anti-inflammatory, anti-exudative, analgesic and antipyretic agent.
Side Effects Of METAFLAM SUSPENSION
Inaccurate dosage is possible in dogs less than 5.7 kg in body weight. NSAID therapy in dogs can cause serious side effects with or without warning. NSAIDs have been reported to cause liver and kidney problems. Hence, it is advised to look out for indications of such effects or any other medical problem.
