Working Mechanism
Amoxicillin, the main ingredient of TOXO-MOX, is a semi-synthetic antibiotic of the Amino-penicillin group. It has a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity against both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. Amoxicillin binds to penicillin-binding proteins involved in bacterial cell wall synthesis and causes eventual death of the cell.
The other ingredient, clavulanic acid or clavulanate is a beta-lactamase inhibitor which protects amoxicillin from degradation by beta-lactamase enzymes and extends its activity period.
