Working Mechanism
Ciclosporin, the active ingredient of VISIOCARE OINT., acts as a local immunomodulator of diseases which have been suspected to be immune-mediated such as keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS) and chronic superficial keratitis (CSK). The mechanism by which ciclosporin cause the increase in lacrimation is poorly understood in management of KCS but it has been made clear that clinical improvement in such cases is not necessarily dependent on an increase in aqueous tear production.
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
- Visiocare Ointment is not suitable for animals other than dogs and for applications other than ophthalmic ones.
- Contact your physician immediately if you or a member of your family accidentally ingests VISIOCARE OINTMENT.
- Visiocare ointment is only for use by Veterinary Medical Practitioner at the Hospital, Laboratory or a Farm.
- Self-medication may result in serious complications and is highly dissuaded. Always consult your veterinarian before starting medication.
- It is recommended that dogs exhibiting chronic recurring conjunctivitis be tested for adequate tear production to determine if they are suffering from early stages of chronic KCS.
- In most cases, dogs afflicted with KCS or CKS will most likely require lifelong consistent therapy. For CSK, clinical signs may subside in the winter months when light intensity is reduced or if the dog is moved to a lower altitude, or indoors, and thus exposed to less UV radiation because environmental factors such as ultraviolet (UV) radiation are implicated in the pathogenesis.
- In cases refractory to cyclosporin, the diagnosis should be re-evaluated and a different course of therapy considered.
- Periodic reassessment for the need of Visiocare ophthalmic ointment therapy is recommended.
- CAUTION FOR DISPOSAL: The residual contents of the container should be discarded one month after opening the tube.
Dosage
After removing debris with suitable non-irritating solutions, a ¼ inch strip of ointment should be applied to the affected eye(s) every 12 hours. The ointment may be placed directly on the cornea or into the conjunctival sac. For best results in treatment of KCS, Visiocare ophthalmic ointment should be administered early in the course of the disease before the lacrimal tissue develops irreversible damage, or dense corneal scarring or pigmentation occurs.

Reki Leo –
My bunny developed a sudden rash of redness and irritation. She felt much better after the first application, and the infection was gone in 10 days with three applications per day. It was an excellent last-minute solution.
